Intuit ProConnect fees depend on the pricing option you choose. Pay-per-return pricing is currently about $76.97 per individual return and $90.96 per business return when purchased as you go. Buying returns in volume lowers the per-return cost (for example, 50+ individual returns are about $45.47 each and 50+ business returns about $59.47 each). ProConnect also offers annual packages, such as bundles for firms needing multiple users and higher return volumes.

QuickBooks Online can connect to many types of financial accounts, including checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, loans, lines of credit, and merchant payment accounts. It connects through supported financial institutions to automatically import transactions, balances, and other financial data for easier bookkeeping and reconciliation.

The four main QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription levels are Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. They increase in features and user capacity, with Simple Start for basic bookkeeping, Essentials adding bill management and multiple users, Plus including inventory and project tracking, and Advanced offering enhanced reporting, automation, custom permissions, and support for larger businesses.

QuickBooks Premier is generally better than QuickBooks Pro because it includes all Pro features plus industry-specific tools, stronger reporting, more detailed inventory and job costing features, and support for more complex businesses. QuickBooks Pro is better for small businesses that need basic bookkeeping at a lower cost. Note that both are desktop products, and Intuit has shifted many users toward QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks Web Connect lets users download bank transactions from their bank’s website as a file (such as .QBO) and then import them into QuickBooks manually. QuickBooks Direct Connect creates a direct connection between QuickBooks and the financial institution, allowing users to download transactions (and sometimes send payments or requests) from within QuickBooks without manually importing files.

Alternatives to ConnectPRO (for remote access and IT support) include TeamViewer, AnyDesk, Splashtop, ConnectWise, and BeyondTrust. The best choice depends on your needs, such as simple remote support, managed IT services, security controls, or enterprise device management.

QuickBooks Pro Plus costs about $1,149 per year for a 1-user subscription (current pricing can vary by promotions, renewals, and user count). Additional users may add extra fees. Note that QuickBooks Desktop Pro is mainly available to existing subscribers, as Intuit has been moving customers toward QuickBooks Online.

You may not need an accountant for simple capital gains situations, such as a few stock sales with clear Form 1099-B reporting. However, an accountant can be helpful for complex cases involving real estate sales, large gains, cryptocurrency, inherited assets, business sales, tax-loss harvesting, or situations where basis calculations and tax planning are important.

If you don’t declare income from other sources, you may owe additional tax, interest, and penalties if the income is later discovered by tax authorities. Many types of income are reported to the IRS through forms like 1099s, so mismatches can trigger notices or audits. It is best to report all taxable income and correct any missing income through an amended return if needed.

In ProConnect Tax, the location to enter distributions depends on the type: enter IRA, pension, or retirement distributions under Income → IRA/Pension Distributions; S corporation distributions under the S Corporation K-1 section; partnership distributions under the Partnership K-1 section; and other distributions in the related income or entity section.

The exact location depends on the entity type (S corporation, partnership, or C corporation).

In QuickBooks, IRA contributions are usually categorized based on whether they are a personal transaction or a business expense. In ProConnect Tax, enter estimated tax payments under Payments, Penalties & Extensions → Estimated Tax Payments. Enter the payment amounts and dates for federal and state estimated payments, and ProConnect will apply them to the return and calculate any remaining balance due or refund.

If you don’t report foreign income that is required to be reported, you may owe additional taxes, interest, and penalties, and you could face increased scrutiny from tax authorities.
